[00:00:30] What's going on? Rob Sestrinino here on a very dark night in Big Brother history. We are very sad here tonight, but the show must go on to recap the Big Brother 28 Premiere here with you live after the episode.

[00:00:59] And so let's bring in our esteemed panel. Of course, a man who I'm sure is very shook at this hour. It's Taron Armstrong. Taron, good evening. I thought dinosaurs were cool. I thought velociraptors were chill. Now all of a sudden, they're murdering Rachel Riley? Yep. What in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is happening? I don't understand. Man.

[00:01:29] Yep. Yep. None of this makes sense. At a time like this, nothing makes sense. Here with us, I'm sure very upset. The voice of the people, Melissa Denny. Melissa, how are you? I'm so confused. I'm honestly so confused. I had no way. Like, I just didn't know where they were going with it. I was like, oh, is the final person a cocktail waitress from Las Vegas? That sounds familiar. Yeah. And then I was like, wait a second.

[00:01:59] And I honestly, for a split second, thought that they were able to keep a secret from all the media outlets and all the leakers and everybody. And Rachel was coming back. And I was very excited. So that turned real strange real fast. I don't even, I don't know. I don't even know what to say. Yeah. Well, listen, Melissa, we'll try to make sense out of the tragedy here tonight. And then with us back again after the draft last night, it's Pouya Zavikili Pouya. How are you?

[00:02:28] I wish I was here on better circumstances, Rob. I did want to address one thing. Yes. I'm sure everyone who watched this last night and is watching us tonight is realizing, wait, where's Amon? Amon was chased by the Nethergorgon at the Meow Meow Industries, onto a bat of acid. And he will not be on this podcast tonight. Yes. This is terrible news. Just when you thought this night could not get any darker. Sad to hear about Amon.

[00:02:56] And we have a lot to talk about here tonight in terms of the Big Brother 28 premiere. A lot to do. We will find out tomorrow night the identity of the new reality TV icon coming in. Although I think we can speculate a bit about some things. We got some clues here tonight. But can I tell you? Listen, I know everybody's down. Can I brighten the mood a little bit? Okay? Please.

[00:03:26] Please try. Listen. Do your best. Gang. The Big Brother house has a time machine. Okay? What if they go back and they tell Rachel not to play Big Brother 28? Listen. Or just not do the white locust thing or whatever. Tell Rachel not to go first in the white locust. Even better.

[00:03:54] But I'm telling you, there is a lot of back to the future. I've studied this film. And in this film, they have a time machine. And one of the main characters dies in the beginning of the movie. And they give him a note. And by the end of the movie, he's back alive. I think we can save Rachel. Let's do it. I'm in.

[00:04:23] The time machine buyback. The buyback. The buyback. Yes. Yes. They have to. Rachel Riley can't be dead in Big Brother canon. No. Surely not. Right? Surely not. It does mean that in the next All-Star season, they're going to have to do a whole thing where they. Or you know what? Maybe Zingbot. Maybe Zingbot will revive her at some point.

[00:04:52] I think this season, like week seven, the veto is going to get conducted from the jacuzzi time machine in the other room. And they're going to. The mission is save Rachel and bring her back alive. And Rachel will be back amongst us by the end of the season. But Pouya, if it's up to the house guests, Angela's going to sabotage that mission. Did you see how happy she was when Rachel died? The last scene, too.

[00:05:20] That's the last thing we saw before credits rolled was her pumping air. Oh, yeah. Okay. So, listen, it's weird, right? We had like a kind of a like, okay, this is fun. We had a lot going on. And then we was like really. Taryn, why did they do this? Why was this the direction they went? Rob, I don't know why they did this.

[00:05:46] I think that it was well-intentioned. I do think that they're not exactly setting up whoever is replacing Rachel for success. If they're like really hyping it up this much. And then also like, oh, you don't get Rachel, you get this other person. Yeah. But I will say this, Rob, you know me, you know, we've tried to get people into the show before as well.

[00:06:13] The premiere is usually pretty wacky, pretty silly. And I've always said like, this is stupid. This is ridiculous. Like, I get campy, but this is not that. It's not even good. It's just like slime or AI or whatever. I actually feel like they sold this one. Yeah.

[00:06:37] By the end, especially Julie Chen, I feel like Julie Chen landed ship with her deadpan. Rachel Riley just got pushed into a volcano by a velociraptor. Yes. And then the time machine. I feel like they actually did something that was a little funny. Yeah. It was wild.

[00:07:04] I was thinking of you, Taryn, because I know you're always talking about how you talk to people and you tell them to watch the show and people tune in for the first night. And a lot of people, I think, must have been extremely confused about what this was because they really when Rachel came in, I was like, OK, I think it's going to be like, OK, Bazinga. Got you. They let it go on for so long. And Rachel in the diary room. Rachel confessionals.

[00:07:30] Melissa, I know that you are feeling some type of way about this. Well, number one, just imagine somebody like reading Taryn's book who like isn't super familiar with the show. But it's like, you know what? I'm like, I'm kind of interested. And they read the book and they're like, OK, I'm going to tune in. Like, this sounds like a really good strategic game. I could really get behind it. And then they see this. Like, this is what I don't understand. And look, I get the camp. I was totally on board with the camp with the whole, oh, we're traveling back in time and everyone's shaking the table.

[00:08:00] And then we go to like 1986 or whatever. And then we like go to, you know, and we have the mall person or whatever. Like, I can get into that stuff. That stuff I can get into. It's a little like, you know, it's a little much. It's silly. It's stupid. But I can get into that. But you get to the spot where like for like what felt like a five minute segment of Rachel going like with like a fake velociraptor like another houseguest like what is happening? And then she's getting chased around. It was Katy Perry with Lyric on American Idol.

[00:08:31] Literally. So it just it just is like that to me was like too much. And I agree with Taryn. I think Julie did an excellent job. I thought the ending was really cute where she goes in there and she's just like, oh, I'm going to like let me solve this problem. And she's like fixed it or whatever. And you've got like the Dr. Evil music in the background. Like I liked that part. That part's fine. I like the time travel aspect. I like the costumes and the sets and the this and that and the other thing. I loved when they brought them to Fiji and did a survivor-esque challenge.

[00:09:01] Like I thought that was really cool. And they totally lost me on the dinosaur Rachel Riley thing. Like they just completely lost me. See, the thing is, I think it was more palatable to me after I realized, oh, the Velociraptor isn't going to eat Rachel. I genuinely thought that's where we were headed. I did too. I didn't know how that was going to logistically work. So I'll take the pool of lava at that point.

[00:09:28] It's the fact that you had enough time to go, oh, it's a dinosaur. It's going to eat her. Here it goes. Okay. It's getting closer. All right. It's making an attempt. How is this going to work? I guess it's not going to work. It's just going to chase her into the woods. No, it's chasing her up. Oh, she's going to fall into the volcano. That was way too much time. Yeah. Too much time. If they had a big animated one, like just come down over her.

[00:09:57] She should have just climbed the volcano to give her speech. And then if you needed the dinosaur, you could have the dinosaur rush up the volcano. You don't need a dinosaur. Yeah. She falls in a trap door. You might have needed a dinosaur. Why? Why? What if? Because she wouldn't get Julie's line. She's doing the speech by the volcano. Exactly. And up the volcano, there is a life vest. And she trips as she finishes her speech, but she can't grab the life vest.

[00:10:25] And then she falls into the pit a lot. Because she's not a floater. Exactly. That's cute. That's cute. That's campy. I like it. I don't like the other thing. And I also want to say that I don't feel like this is good vibes for casual fans watching the show. Not the dinosaur thing, but the fact that they brought in Rachel and everyone's excited about it. I know my mom's sitting there like, oh my God, Rachel's back. She's going to play again. And then she just doesn't play again and even dies.

[00:10:54] Yeah, that's where I agree. You know, I thought this was fun. I think this was memorable. I think they really went for it. So I have to applaud the swing. But I think that they could have done this in a way where it didn't make it seem like that Rachel was back and going to play on this season. I think that people would be very excited about that. And then, like, I think that they could have just come up with some other, like, if they wanted in the fiction of the show, to have it be a thing where Rachel has died from falling into the volcano.

[00:11:24] Just don't tease people that she was going to play this season. That's my one note on that. Totally. Yeah, I agree. I do feel like, for me, it has unlocked something that, no pun intended, makes this potentially work. I feel like Big Brother needs more, like, straight characters. Like Julie Chen playing it straight.

[00:11:55] Like, the way that she read it, like, just a moment ago. Like, I feel like too often, everyone is being goofy. And it doesn't feel like the show is in on its own joke. But when Julie is making it seem normal and newsworthy, it starts to work, I think. Julie was great tonight. I don't know what they did. They upgraded the ChenBots software. But she got a big upgrade.

[00:12:24] She was so good. She was on fire tonight. When she tells all the women, when she tells all the women that it's an old women's season. And I was like, just kidding. I'm like, Julie. She loves her just kidding. She does. Just kidding. I was kidding. So she was great. All right. So that's one of the things that we have to talk about here tonight. We got two reality TV icons in Angela and Rick Devins entering the house. A third is a mystery.

[00:12:53] It will be revealed on Big Brother Unlocked. But we do have some circumstantial evidence. We saw in the episode tonight, Julie Chen Moonves said, I think I know what to do. She went to the timetable and entered the date, I believe, December 20th, 2023, I believe. And I remember where I was that night.

[00:13:18] I was doing the Survivor know-it-alls talking about the Survivor 45 finale. Oh, interesting. Wonder what that means. It's 45. Yeah. Has anybody checked on Brandon Donlan? It's Brandon Donlan. He's on the season. Well, it's possible. And he's the reason Rachel's not? Oh. Adam.

[00:13:47] Brandon, what have you done? Not cool. Not cool. Not good. Yeah. But you know who else is on Survivor 45? Probably is Emily Flippen was on Survivor 45. Yep. She just played on Survivor 50. But also Dee Vajdaris also played in Survivor 50. Nah, it couldn't be Dee. Hmm. Hmm.

[00:14:15] That'd be too good of a player for me to have drafted first on the draft. I mean, that would be unfair. Yeah. So let's try to pivot to talk about we had a format change here going into Big Brother 28 where only the three returning players are going to play in the HOH competition. The new players played for safety.

[00:14:42] What do we think about a three-person HOH competition to start the season? This is some friendship bracelet level advantage to these reality icons. They really were like, the fact that there's three of you is not enough. They're not even just going to give you safety. We also need to guarantee that you're in charge.

[00:15:11] And not only guarantee that you're in charge of the first week, but make it clear to the other peons that they will have no chance of being in charge. That they must suck up to you from the moment they even conceive of your existence. That one of you will be the HOH. It's pretty heavy-handed. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:15:35] I mean, I think that they're trying to stack the deck as much as they can for these returning favorites. And that is definitely going to be the case. For Jason, did they give Jason a choice about being a reality TV icon? Or was Jason always part of the second-class citizens?

[00:16:02] I don't think Jason got the upgrade ticket. I don't think Jason was allowed into the first-class lounge here by the looks of things. But Jason has safety. So that's at least something Jason can hold. Because let me tell you, Rob, I was starting to get nervous for Jason when we kept seeing Jason be the one to be like, we cannot trust anything that man says. Like, Jason might not be wanting these returnees around. So I'm happy Jason secures some safety. Yeah.

[00:16:29] Yeah, it is funny because, like, yesterday during the draft, we were saying that Jason might have an advantage because he could connect with them over the fact that they've already been on reality shows. And then it turns out he's, like, immediately, like, get them out. I mean, obviously, it's just one sentence. Like, he could be at the same time being like, hey, guys, we have a connection. So who knows? But, you know, it'd be interesting. You know, it's hard from the finale. If you remember last season at the end of the Big Brother 27 premiere, was it Jimmy that was like, we need to get out, Rachel?

[00:16:58] And then the live feeds came on. They were like, me and Rachel are best friends. Yeah, you can't really get a lot from this episode. Although we did get that, what, Drew is being annoying or they're annoyed by him or something or he talks too much, he won't stop talking. So who knows if that's real. But that's, like, the one bit of info. I feel like we didn't get really much any other info aside from maybe some crushes. But nothing else, really.

[00:17:28] It was more just, like, competitions, new people coming in, et cetera. Yeah. I mean, I just, I was blown away that we had two separate people, both of whom I was pretty high on in the preseason, who knew that only these three people were going to compete for HOH. And the moment they walked into the house started with, that's the first person out. Don't trust these people.

[00:17:57] What are you doing? Come on. This is 101. I especially feel like so far in the beginning, before you know really how the whole house is going to shake out, like, to start saying immediately, like, we have to get this person out. It feels too soon. And I hate that whole idea of, like, don't strategize too soon. But they're literally, like, at the table when they first arrive. And it's like... You're saying it to people who cannot win HOH. Yeah, it's too soon. It's about people who can. Yeah.

[00:18:27] That, and I don't, like, you don't know these people, right? So the person you're ad-libbing to like this could legitimately just go ahead and use it against you the first chance they get. Yeah. You don't know them well enough. So we saw Jason say it. Was it too lyric? I thought it was melody. I think it was lyric. Was it? It was lyric. I thought it was lyric. Okay. I'll stand corrected. And Latrice also was the other person who said, I don't remember who she said it to.

[00:18:58] She did say it to somebody's face. I don't remember whose face it was. She seemed to just whisper it to the... Yeah, I thought it was just to everyone, but just, like, to the side. Yeah. Okay. So we'll see if that sticks, if the returning players can win over the newbies at some point. It's also interesting that we got... I'm assuming this is going to be some kind of, like, physical competition. The volcano? If they're staying at the volcano, perhaps. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:19:28] I mean, I don't think we're going to just, like, throw away that volcano set and not even do the challenge. And so I kind of like either Rick Devon's chances or the other returning players' chances against Angela in the physical comp, the one-in-three shot. Yeah, I'm not betting on Angela here, respectfully. Almost seems like they really wanted a survivor player to be the first HOH. That's... You know what? That's a good point. That's a good point. You kind of...

[00:19:58] You're bringing them into this domain. You don't want them to look like failures immediately. You don't want that at all. Yeah. When Jeff came out and did that little, like, segment, I just kept thinking how cool it would be if we did a pure, like, half-and-half season of, like, half-survivor people, half-big-brother people, and just, like, see who wins. I just feel like that would be really fun. Well, this was a huge night that we got Jeff Probst on Big Brother, I believe, for the first time ever.

[00:20:24] And it's something I never thought I would see in all of my days. I guess that he officially gives the green light for Rick Devins and anybody else to play in Big Brother 28. Somewhere, I think Carolyn's head is exploding as people are going on other shows. No issue from Jeff on this one. We see that he got a letter from Chuck that said, hey, can Rick Devins play in Big Brother

[00:20:53] in eight years? And Jeff's like, oh, yeah, definitely. I can see it. So, the weird thing about this is that Jeff then knew that Devins would be competing on Big Brother 28 before he cast him for 50. Yeah. What did, did Drew call him Mr. Coin Toss? Is that his legacy now, Devins? I think that that's a good part of it.

[00:21:19] Well, you have to remember, Drew was on Beast Games, so it would be his first thought. What would you think that he is more famous from? He's certainly not Rick from Georgia. Don't make that a thing, Big Brother social media. But what would you know him from? I mean, wouldn't he be, I guess he'd be the, I mean, he'd be from Survivor, but then he's like the newscaster. That's kind of what I think of. I don't think the coin is his legacy, but to Taron's point, the Beast Games contestant is the one that calls it that. So, that's fine. Can I quickly stop on the Rick Devins thing?

[00:21:49] I saw a TikTok right before I jumped on here from Becca, Rick Devins' wife. And Christian at their house taking over the Rick Devins fatherly duties has to be the first thing you talk about on the slop this week, Rob. It was so funny. It was so good. Rick is the dad that stepped up. Sorry, Christian is the dad that stepped up at this hour. And that was a phenomenal video. I'll put that on there. Is Devin's going to come back from time travel to find his wife with someone else?

[00:22:19] Yeah, you know what I wouldn't love is when I go on Big Brother and then a friend of mine stops to visit my wife. That's what you want, yeah. That's what I would not want. But that's not how Christian is. Stop it. Okay. But yeah, Jeff Props, I believe now has completed the CBS host trifecta. Phil Kogan has appeared already on Big Brother.

[00:22:45] And so now Julie and Phil and Jeff have now all appeared on Big Brother, making it the first show that all three of the hosts have appeared on. I do feel like Jeff has shown up before. I swear I remember him showing up at one point, but this has to be the most official capacity it's happened in. Yeah. Okay. Let's talk about some of this time travel also. How about the young Angela?

[00:23:16] I was so confused at first, but then once I understood it, I was like, oh, I get it. Because I was like, Angela was born in the 80s? I got so confused. Because I didn't realize they were trying to make that be Angela. I thought it was that they were just picking their birth dates. I did not get it. And then it clicked. And I thought it was really fun. So after young Angela, did anyone else start to feel their age a little when the other two time zones we traveled, times we traveled to were 2010, 2018, and then Julie goes back

[00:23:46] to 2023? I feel like, aren't you going to use the time travel, like the time travel machine to go further back in time? This is a little too close for me. And people were like, oh, at least I was born. Is 770 BC not good enough for you, Booyah? That is pretty far back. They fixed it after. But when people started saying that they were only born, like the 2018 one, it was at least they were born during then. I was like, oh man, this is like, everybody's, I don't know. Everybody's very young on this cast. They probably wouldn't know what all these other dates were. Sure.

[00:24:15] I thought that when they were going to go back to 2018, that they were going back to, they were going to go back to the summer of Steve 2018. A classic time. A classic time. A moment in time. Yeah. But I kind of thought that like, oh, we said that they were going to do like classic challenges. I kind of thought like, oh, are we doing like a challenge from Big Brother 20? I feel like that would have been fun is to do like, if you, if you took, I think it would

[00:24:42] be really fun because I liked that they did the survivor one for him. I guess they were trying to pretend it was Rachel. So maybe that wouldn't make sense. But I liked, I would have liked how, if they had done like a signature competition that that person competed in or something, or something that gave a vibe of that person. I don't know if an 80s mall gave the vibe of Angela. I don't think I would have been able to guess it, but. Angela one should have been the spinny thing. 26. Oh, yeah. Bring that back. How, how, what, how did we miss that?

[00:25:11] It even fits. It could have been the time machine itself. It could have been like, spin around. I feel like people got so sick from that one though. Although, oh my God, I cannot believe they slimed those people on premiere night. You couldn't believe they nude people? No, I'm just saying their hair and makeup, like everyone's trying to look nice. And then they make them sit with that slime forever afterwards. And like, come back in for the premiere.

[00:25:36] It's just, look, as a girl, I would have been very upset if my hair and makeup had been just totally destroyed with slime. Like the first day I'm on TV. It's the reason they make the show. Yeah. Do you think it's doing to the guys? They don't need to get all dressed up. They wouldn't bother. I mean, Jeff Probst in the New Era talks about how you gotta get birthed into Survivor. Go through the mud. This is how you get birthed into Big Brother.

[00:26:01] You gotta splash in the face with goo so hard that your goggles fly off your face. They're just gone. Yeah, there's a lot of velocity on the slime, I have to say. It's a lot. It's a lot. And it's a very heavy hit. Nah, it's too much. It's a lot of slime. They're competing with Love Island at this point. They need to have the more, the higher velocity slime.

[00:26:31] Let's talk about, we were so surprised the time machine was invented by Enzo. The Meow Meow Industries was here. Taren, is that canon that Meow Meow Industries makes the time laser? I mean, I guess it is now. This was one of the bigger misses for me. What?

[00:26:57] I just feel like Enzo had way too many lines. They gave Enzo a lot of dialogue. Yeah. And he did great. It was amazing. He did manage to read them. Yes. That was the one part that my husband was listening in on. And he was like, I'm sorry, what? Are you watching a cat? I was like, and then I had to explain that he calls himself the Meow Meow.

[00:27:25] And it was just like, it was very strange. I did like, though, that they made them pick him out of a bunch of guys on a picture or something. And no one, some of the people didn't know what he even looked like because they didn't know who he was. Because he didn't have his hat on. Yeah. Like, he doesn't have a signature look. He's just in a lab coat. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So I thought that was a pretty good way to, you know, separate the fans from the non-fans.

[00:27:51] I do appreciate the continuity they used where this throwaway line they made Danielle use a couple years ago, they then took and repurposed for this moment. I agree there was too much dialogue. But it's always nice to see some alumni back at it again. And I don't think I had Enzo on my bingo card whatsoever for the premiere of 28. So we'll take it. No. I mean, what a weird night. I just feel like there's a lot of alumni that could have ate this up. Mm-hmm. Well, naturally. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:28:19] If that much dialogue, yeah, Enzo's not your word guy. Mm-hmm. No. Yeah. Definitely not. Yeah. We had a script tonight where we had scientist Enzo. We had young Angela. We had Rachel Riley being murdered by falling into lava. Like, they really, they threw a lot at us tonight. It wasn't just the people who got slimed who got hit with a lot. You know, I do appreciate the cameos. It's fun. Yeah.

[00:28:46] I like the idea that Big Brother alumni, like, want to come back or are excited to come back on the show. Because that's what you want to see is people who, like, the fandom build versus, oh, once they got off the show, they're like, get me out of here. So I do like that. I do appreciate that Big Brother recognizes that we can handle a lot and they throw a lot at us here. Because from next episode on, they're going to repeat everything seven times in the episodes. Like, we're not going to get it.

[00:29:16] So it's our one time we get to get the most. Okay. We talked about a lot of the window dressing here tonight. Why don't we go through the cast and then talk about our takeaways and our reactions based off of what we saw in the episode. I'll go by the order that they were introduced tonight. We got Ashley and I thought it was kind of a down night for Ashley based off of what we saw from her from her bios. What do you mean? Why?

[00:29:45] She seemed like she wasn't that bright. I have to be honest. I felt like that she really was. She was real nervy. Maybe too nervous. I mean, we did hear. Nervy. Nervy. Nervy. Yeah. Yeah. She's just really nervy. She's very nervy. Somebody was Barrett that. Oh, yeah. She had a she had a thing for Rome, but Barrett had a thing for her. So that seemed like a misconnection. She has a thing for mustaches. Mustaches.

[00:30:14] Barrett does have a mustache. So, you know, we don't know. Yeah. Could be a thing. But I do agree. I feel like I and this could absolutely just be like, you know, premiere or whatever. We don't know. But I was feeling in her when we initially saw her in the like reveal. I felt like she's turning it up for the camera.

[00:30:39] She's just being kind of like fake ditzy to kind of give this persona. And then I feel like I'm not so sure it's totally fake. Yeah. I think it's might just be how she is. I think everything was fine, but it made me a little nervous about her saying, I'm just going to pick random numbers. I don't know what they are. I'm not I'm just going to like put them in and see what happens.

[00:31:04] And that was a little like, OK, so, you know, who knows? But I was seeing like I was thinking to myself, like, hmm, did I make the right draft pick when I was watching it? Maybe it's just me. I thought she delivered the exact same personality that I saw in the in the reveal. Maybe, you know, we're talking about maybe she's not as intelligent as we thought she may be. I don't agree. I think she is one of two people that was locked out of safety completely.

[00:31:34] She is definitely not the six foot six person who got locked out of safety. And I do think they're going to like, I don't think she's going to get punished for this. I think she can only go up from here. I think there's a lot of personality there. I think it's going to be fun to see her. I think the diary room she was a natural in. I don't know. I'm high on Ashley. I'm still high on Ashley. So we'll see. OK, don't count around. I do.

[00:31:57] I worry that as somebody that stood out as particularly bad at that competition, she could be in the pawn in the first week. Like, just somebody that you don't think is going to disrupt your plans by winning something. Well, the people that could be deciding who goes up did not get to watch or know any of that. It's true. They'll hear about it, which is maybe worse. How extensive do we think the retail? I guess they have nothing else to talk about.

[00:32:28] There's going to be like, she couldn't even figure out who Enzo was. She spent the whole time grabbing random things. She was the one of two people who couldn't do it. But in fairness, Barrett's got height that makes him seem more dangerous. Yeah. In fairness, the potential HOH does not know who Enzo is either. Could not pick Enzo out of a lineup. [00:32:58] What's not to love? I have high hopes for Lala. But like I said, the fact that she was to the crowd saying Angela is the first one out was was quite a flub in my eyes. Really, like anybody who heard that, if they're in any amount of danger and Angela is either

[00:33:24] HOH or allied to the HOH, why wouldn't they be like, yeah, well, did you hear about what Lala said about you, Angela? Did you hear about what Lala said about the returning players? And it's just like, oh, it's just such a simple thing to have not done. And I'm really concerned. I still believe in her as a personality. But that's not that's not the start I would have wanted to see. Yeah. Also, her confession or diary room or whatever, where she was like, I want to be the only over 50 here.

[00:33:54] Like, I think that it's a benefit for her to have somebody else in the house that's older and not just, oh, she's the older person in the house. Like, let's get her out because she's older. It gives her more numbers, you would think. But the fact that she was saying she would want to get rid of anyone else that's over 50 is like, oh, maybe don't. I think let me let me devil's advocate this a little bit. I agree. Red flag should not have said that. I agree. However, she can't win.

[00:34:23] So she can't do anything with that. It could get back to the people and they could be looking for an easy person to put up and she could be deemed as an easy person to put up because of being older. I will say, though, regardless of all her mistakes, Lala's the reason I was mid episode wishing and hoping for my own time machine to travel forward 24 hours to just get to the feeds already because I was living for everything we were seeing from Latrice.

[00:34:50] And I'm honestly so excited to follow her into every room on the feeds and to get to talk about her on the live feed update. So my hope is that this foot and mouth incident did not cost us Lala past week one. Hopefully. Yeah, it seems like a minor faux pas, but bad instinct. Yes, definitely. OK, it's minor unless it becomes major. I mean, it's I would say this is a lot less minor than showering in the HOH room. Mm hmm. You know what I mean?

[00:35:18] OK, I also feel like it's like we only have little bits to glom onto for this premiere. So we have to take what we can get. Otherwise, you know, I don't I don't know what to say about anybody, you know? OK. All right. Let's talk about Lyric. I thought that Lyric had a strong night tonight. We got to see how bubbly she is. We got to see her make fake phone calls as a lawyer.

[00:35:41] And she came into the house and we had even even was it not Mallory. Mallory wants to be best friends with her. I liked that. I was actually very intrigued by that. I was thinking, like, if those two could team up, I could really get behind this. So I don't know. I I'm hopeful. But we didn't hear anything from Lyric then. Like, oh, I really like Mallory. So I don't know what's going to happen there. But I do feel like that could be a really fun duo if we can get that.

[00:36:11] Yeah. If she says get away from me. Done. Yeah. The way they edited it concerned me because they at this point in time, no more than we do. Right. It's been a few days in that house. And so the fact that they chose to edit it this way makes me concerned for Mallory that, like, they clearly wanted it to look a little creepy. And like the way she phrased, like, oh, I'll let her go talk to other people. But hopefully she'll come back to me.

[00:36:40] It was like it was a little strange. It was a little strange. The hope would be if you're a Mallory fan that they really wanted her to be like, you know, like a Kelly type, like a goofball. And so they're going to try to edit her that way, regardless of what they're giving her. But but the pessimistic view is. They're she's giving them what they are.

[00:37:05] We talked about Mallory extensively on the draft about how her social media presence is vastly different than this character we've seen on the reveal. And then we got the intro video tonight for Mallory. I now I'm more confused than I was yesterday because I didn't get I did not know the reveal or Instagram could not have prepared me for the space themed bedroom set. And then the what was it?

[00:37:34] Dinosaurs and Tiki. Yeah, she likes to have themed parties with her friends. Why are you making this weird? Hey, I'm not yucking the yum, nor am I calling it weird. I'm just saying there's a lot going on. And I can't listen. It's a perfect example of Instagram is not reality. You did say this yesterday. Yeah. Yeah. OK.

[00:38:03] Anything else about Lyric? She got very close to winning or safety. But she was I was really impressed with her that she came in second. But that acted very happy for Jason. I thought she did a very good job acting very happy for the person who won. I'm curious if that was authentic or not, because Jason and I me and Melissa believe Lyric was the one that Jason said. We cannot trust anything this man says.

[00:38:27] So I wonder if those two are actually really close or immediately felt like we can we can hang out. They're both performers, so it would make sense that they potentially gravitated toward one another. OK, let's talk about Melody. And we got to see a little bit more of Melody and her game show background. Not a lot about Melody in the house. She gave the DR about Drew being annoying.

[00:38:57] Yes. I thought her her DR was pretty interesting because it felt pretty real and not, you know, hi, I'm so excited to be the group. You know, so that to me made me interested in her. They usually start that way. And then they get approached over time. We'll see. But, you know, I could see that being her being kind of a more interesting character than I would have thought.

[00:39:24] I wouldn't love if she's just judging Drew for no reason. But, you know, we can't see like what's going on in the house. And so obviously they're going to I mean, I didn't get vibes that he was talking a lot. And then they like edited it after she said that that to like show him just talking and talking. So I really don't know. We'll have to see how everything like shakes out on the feeds. But she seemed more interesting to me than she did.

[00:39:52] Yeah, I can't I left the episode feeling a lot more excited about watching Melody play the game. Also, I thought the DR was fun. And I think there was a lot more personality here than what we got from the reveal. So, yeah, I think net positive for Melody for me. OK, let's talk about Haley, somebody who we did not get a lot from from her package from the reveal. What do you think about Haley tonight?

[00:40:18] I I I was thinking I was like, is Haley going to give us some McKenzie comp energy? And she got to a survivor themed challenge. And I was like, oh, here we go. All right. Well, you haven't gotten Rick Devins in the diary room yet. Yes. Rick Devins looks intense in the diary room. He looks intense. Yeah. Should we stop down on Rick Devins here? [00:46:24] Because, yeah, I feel like Rick feels a little out of place in Big Brother. I'm not used to Rick in Big Brother yet. It's so weird. It is very weird. And it's like, the thing too is that like, with Sari, she had done The Traitors. And then, and it had kind of been a while since she was on Survivor. And so it felt like there was a transition period that where it kind of made some sense. But Rick was just on our screens like a couple of months ago on Survivor.

[00:46:51] And so to see him here is so strange. It's so out of place. Yeah, it really is. And he has a lot of confessionals about what it's like to be on Big Brother versus being on Survivor. And it is just going to be like the pace of play. And he talked about it. I'm not sure if it was in the episode or if it was in the intro video that he put out. Where it's going to be hard for him because the game is so much longer than it is.

[00:47:20] And Rick Devins is an impatient player in Survivor. Right. It's concerning. We talked about it on the draft. Like, there's definitely some concerns for Rick. Like, you know, if Sari played super, super fast and hard, who's not even necessarily known for playing super, super fast and hard on Survivor. But Devins, who is known for playing hard and fast on Survivor, coming to Big Brother.

[00:47:47] It's good that he's aware that there's this massive change of pace. But it's one thing to know it. It's another thing to, like, actually be able to do it. Mm-hmm. Okay. We'll see. It's going to be fun to watch the transition because I feel like that Rick Devins is not really an alliance builder either. Like, the way that you would most effectively play Big Brother is not how he plays at all. Yeah.

[00:48:16] I think the closest we really saw was on his starting tribe on 50. He did, you know, help create an alliance with himself, Christian, Emily, and then was able to kind of connect with Sari and Ozzy. But, crucially, that wasn't a very locked-in alliance. No. Sari and Ozzy eventually left and did their own thing. He wasn't able to really hold on to it. Yeah. Which is a very key Big Brother trait.

[00:48:44] Something that somebody like, for instance, D, is pretty good at. Yeah. I think that maybe the best, or the closest he's come to this is maybe, like, starting in season 38, where he was in a group with David and Kelly and Wardog and Lauren. And, I mean, they voted together a couple of tribal councils before, ultimately, they voted him out when they got down to five.

[00:49:14] Yeah. It's not a great history of being in, like, a solid alliance. He has been voted out three times. Yes. In two seasons of Survivor. Yes. So, we'll see where Rick goes from here. And I will say this, too.

[00:49:33] If we're talking about Rick, even though it was a bad move on Jason's part to do so, I think it's very bad news also for Rick that Jason does not want to play with him. Right. And he immediately felt the need to say, do not trust this man. That's bad. Because Jason was one of the people that I think Rick might have needed as a fellow reality contestant. Jason clearly keeping that to himself for now, it seems.

[00:50:04] But, yeah, the fact that Jason might be trying to besmirch his name, that's a bad enemy to have, I think. Listen, they could go for Rick Devins. They're playing right into his hand. That's right. That's what he wants. There's no idols on Big Brother, though. There's the veto. There's the blockbuster. But, Rob, every... I noticed this. I don't know if you guys... Every single intro, almost every single intro, had somebody talking up their athletic abilities.

[00:50:35] Because it seems that the show is even aware of it now. Athletic ability is extremely important on Big Brother. And now, if you want to be on the show, you'd better be athletic and you'd better boast about it in your interviews because I think they're casting for more athletic people. You know, my critique on equitable comps was always make the comps more equitable. But if you can't... If you really can't do that, at least cast more athletic people.

[00:51:04] I think they've gone in that direction. Yeah, and not for anything, Rick Devins, he didn't win any individual immunities in Season 50. But he won, I think, like, maybe three in Survivor 38. And he is good at sort of, like, these, like, carnival game type challenges. So, he may win some challenges here, Rick Devins. You would hope. He said he was going to try, which I appreciated.

[00:51:32] That, like, he was like, might as well just start winning competitions and hope you keep winning competitions. You know, I would hope that he perhaps understands that it's pretty important to do so. Yeah. Let's go back to Jason, who I think had a very interesting night. And he comes in and we get the intro package. Jason seems to be very well-liked by people in the house.

[00:52:02] Yeah, I think extremely liked. And I very much am happy that Jason is one of the people safe for the week. Because I would have been concerned that Jason could have been with a three-person block. Jason could have so easily ended up a casualty of that this first week. I'm so happy Jason's safe. Yeah, I'm excited to watch Jason play. Like, I feel like also he's going to be really fun and funny. So I don't want him to be one of the first out.

[00:52:29] So I am definitely glad that he's safe. Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think that the fact that he was, again, already talking about the returning players, given that one of them must be the HOH, if I were one of them, he would have been on my radar as somebody who is, like, absolutely capable of rounding up new players to come against us. And so I think this is a very good safety to win for sure.

[00:52:57] Do you think that he has it as, like, a chip in his back pocket if he ends up in sort of, like, hot water with any of the returnees to, like, say, hey, I'm a return. Like, I'm a reality TV vet myself. Rob, of course. He's friends with Frankie Grande. He knows the I'm a media mogul. Yeah, right. Sorry, social media mogul hard to play. That's a good point. He's ready. He's ready. That's the Frankie playbook. He's going. He's playing.

Let's look at Rome, who we talked about a lot on the draft on Wednesday night. But I think that Rome came in and had a pretty positive night on night one. I'm going to disagree. Yes. Talk it through. Rob didn't even get to see me. I think in the house, yes.

[00:53:55] But Rome, the man who, if you didn't watch our preseason content, introduced himself in the video intros preseason by saying that he gets along real well with betas and submissives. I was like, okay, I'm ready to hear that again. But instead, he came at me with a different intro that grossed me out in a different way. When he said, yeah, I train a lot of ladies and sometimes they get a little flirtatious with me. So. Yeah.

[00:54:23] Who is this woman that was filmed in this? Is this a paid actress? Like, how does this work? I hope so. I hope this wasn't like someone actually in his realm. Someone who's actually paying for a lesson. Right? I've got compensated. What woman is going to pay this man for lessons after he says that on national television? That's weird. That is weird. I think this must be like an actress or an extra that they have. Right?

[00:54:53] Probably a production assistant. Mm-hmm. Right? Like, just some music. I guess to be fair, maybe Ashley would pay for those lessons as is possible. From a mustache man. Yeah. Yeah. That's it. I don't know. I just feel like those intro videos are always just like so staged and so vague.

I just knew we weren't going to get that run back. Like I was like, that was a one and done. That's not going to get replayed here. Right. Yeah. I with Taron, I think in the house, he'll probably be fine. And he did secure safety, which I think furthers the script, the plot armor, because we know

And this is awful because this was just two seasons ago.

So I think he's going to do a good job of kissing up to the returnees.

Uh, but, uh, but in a way that I feel like he might be a rootable character. Um, and I love that he's safe because that's going to be, I think, great for him. He's shown that he's good at competitions.

[01:01:36] And so people might be, instead of feeling like, oh, he's maybe a little, uh, dorky, um, and he's a physical threat, you know, you know, maybe this is a good, easy person to put on the block early on. They might instead feel like, oh, he's safe for the first week. He's good at winning competitions and he's nice and he's friendly. Uh, maybe he's somebody I can pull in. So, uh, I think this is a great win for him. I think it'd be very endearing. That's kind of the read I have on him right now.

[01:02:01] Um, and the one thing I think by the end of the episode I learned was that I think he gets along with women. So I've picked that up now as well. Yeah. And I think Yash was giving me that energy, but in a bro-y way in the reveal. But he was a little bit more calm, which I think is good for him. We'll see if that calm prevails. We'll find out. We didn't talk too much about Angela and her arrival into the house.

[01:04:27] How do you think Angela's fitting in? She clearly has some fans. She was extremely concerned about Rachel coming in. I don't know if that's like a specific personal relationship thing or if she genuinely didn't want another Big Brother player. I think if we're looking at it like personal relationships aside, Rachel being in would have been phenomenal for her.

[01:04:54] Another big character, Big Brother player to bounce off of. Perhaps there's something between them that I don't know about. But like I was confused at her reaction. I remember her being joining YouTube for an eviction recap last season. I do not remember her thoughts on Rachel then.

[01:05:18] Because I'm very curious if she just found Rachel to be threatening or just did not want to cohabitate the same space. But she seemed very relieved that Rachel was out. It might just be, and I didn't really catch her having any weirdness towards Rachel, but maybe it's like, okay, she's been following the rumor mill. Rachel wasn't in there. Did she feel like lied to at all? Maybe that like, did she ask Rachel, are you going to be on the season? And Rachel said, no.

So maybe there was something there with like that she was not expecting it based off of any sort of like pregame rumors that she had. So she felt maybe weird about it. Very possible. But I would say otherwise, I think she's in a good spot. Again, the fact that her, Rick, or a potential D are the only people that can win HOH is phenomenal.

[01:06:16] There's not really any reason why the other two would want to put her on the block or put her in any danger, I think in any way in this first week, which means she's going to be one of the safe people. But also not the threat of the three people, probably the least threatening of the three people. On top of that, she has fans. So I think she's actually very well positioned here in terms of, you know, where she stands in the house. She was very excited to meet Rick Devins. Yeah.

[01:06:46] Mm-hmm. So we'll see how she fits in with the other survivor. Will she potentially get along with Dee? I'm getting some feedback from my parents. Yes. Who just watched the episode. What did they say? So the casual correspondence. My mom says, my dad loved Big Brother tonight. He said it was crazy. I've never seen him so animated about the show. It was crazy fun and cool time machine stuff. Dads love dinosaurs.

But Angela needs to go. Dad says Angela needs to go into the volcano. Oh! Oh! Yes. Very, very sad news we would hear. Just moments ago, a velociraptor threw Rachel into a volcano. So what does it mean for the others? So apparently the casual fans are not...

[01:07:46] Fans of Angela, apparently. Oh, that's always been the case. Yeah. I mean... Yeah. Oh, well. Yeah. Casual fans don't know what's good for them. They don't know. Yeah, exactly. That's good. She has good heat. She gets people like, oh, I gotta see what she's gonna do next. Right. Like, it's exciting. It's fun. Yeah. Well, in the preseason, Julie had said something about controversial house guests, and I thought, I think she means polarizing.

[01:08:15] Angela is the poster for polarizing. Like, truly, you get people who love her and people who cannot stand her. And that is a very fun person to have in the mix. Yep. Did Angela grow up in California in the 80s? Were they taking any artistic liberty? I thought that she is from Utah. Right. Did she grow up as a valley girl? Not that I'm aware of. And work at the max from Say by the Bell?

[01:08:42] I think if they really wanted to make this accurate, she would have had some charcuterie. Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah. Like, who knows? Apparently, she did grow up in California. Okay. There you go. Now, she ripped up the letter at the end of where Rome gave her the letter. She ripped it up. We didn't see where she taped it back together. Hmm. Good point. Yeah? [01:09:12] Okay. Anything else from this wild night of Big Brother? So, I was sent a photo by one Taylor Allen. And I can send this to you, Rob, if you want to, like, put it up on the page. Does this power of veto that I'm about to send you look like a silver power of veto? Yeah. Hmm.

[01:09:41] The veto very much looked silver. Yeah. It is, I think, possible that it was just the lighting, because there were some, like, lighting effects going on. But it certainly looks very silver. All right. Here we go. Which is a silver power of veto. That is, of course, very relevant. If you're a fan of the gold.

[01:10:05] If you are a more recent fan, or really, quite frankly, if you did watch 25 years ago, the veto was originally introduced as the silver power of veto. You could not play it on yourself. You could only play it on someone else. And then it eventually became the golden power of veto that Marcellus decided not to use on himself. Hmm. But, but yeah. Silver veto is interesting.

[01:10:34] If it truly is silver, I would assume that, you know, it's, I don't know. It's, I think it's possible. It's just the lighting, though. Yeah. Is it? I'm trying to think of why they would even want that. Do they feel like with the blockbuster? Is it like, uh, you have an opportunity to get off the block on, on Thursday? It never really made sense as a thing you could only use on someone else. Yeah.

Or is that, should we be looking into that in any way?

Um, cause really I remember ancient Egypt. We've not hit yet, but have the, uh, those, the others. Count as what we saw on the wall already. Or are those still to come? This was a snippet. Mm-hmm. Unclear. Okay. Yeah. All right. Any other thoughts from the premiere?

[01:11:55] I was intrigued when Julie said, uh, not only tune in tomorrow night for the, you know, the reveal of what she did in the time machine, but also that the live feeds would start immediately following the episode of Unlocked tomorrow night. Uh, Big Brother famously not very prompt with their, uh, live feed start times. So, uh, I'm skeptical, but, uh, but it was very pointed language.

[01:12:22] Um, and so, uh, I would hope also that that means, uh, that there has been news about this season that the live feeds will be free on YouTube live streamed after, right after the episodes. So if this is precedent for how they might do that, uh, it, it's perhaps a good sign that those feeds will start immediately following episodes, but. We'll clarify. They, they're, they're only streaming for like a little, like an hour. Yeah. Yes.

[01:12:52] We don't know how long. Yeah. But, uh, the idea would be for free for a little bit, we'll start streaming on YouTube. And then at some point it will be like, all right, now, if you want to keep watching, tune in on Paramount. Um, but it'll be following every episode. So, uh, the hope is I think for people who watch the feeds regularly is not necessarily like, Oh, I'll watch an hour or two of it on YouTube, but that the fact that they're

[01:13:22] doing it means that they might be more prompt about returning the feeds after the episodes. Right. Especially on for us on Thursdays after the eviction, that's going to be massive. Yeah. You want to see that. Yeah. Immediate reaction. Yeah. That's exciting. Do we have any predictions, uh, to preview big brother unlocked tomorrow night? Um, I have a question if I may. So remind me.

[01:13:48] So December 20th, 2023, when season 45 concludes, that's not when they were in Fiji, right? That was when the episode. That's when the episode premieres. Yes. Yes. So where is Julie going to the watch party? I believe they had a watch party, um, in Los Angeles, uh, with the producers of the show. So maybe she crashed that party. Yeah.

[01:14:12] Listen, in the world of TV, it doesn't, it's not real until it, uh, until it airs. So in the world of big brother, she won on that night in Fiji. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right. I see. So in that, in this canon, we believe Julie's going to end up at final tribal. Like that's where she pulls up. Okay. Cool. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Maybe on a motorcycle. We'll see.
